South Valley Sanctuary & Advocacy Center

Located in Salt Lake County, South Valley Sanctuary maintains a 24-hour crisis hotline, offering support to victims, their families, and the community. We provide emergency shelter for individuals and families escaping domestic or sexual violence. Our facility is staffed around the clock by dedicated professionals and offers a comforting, home-like environment. Comprehensive services and resources are available to help residents heal and work toward achieving independence.

Advocacy and shelter services are confidential and free of charge.

Advocacy Center

Located inside West Jordan City Hall, 8000 S Redwood Rd, Ste N140, West Jordan, open Monday through Thursday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, walk-ins welcome, and Fridays by appointment only. Services offered are geared towards safety planning, connecting survivors with community resources, and providing ongoing support. Critical services include referrals to mental health resources, employment assistance, and legal advocacy support to guide survivors through criminal and civil legal matters. While not attorneys, our advocates offer crucial support and accompaniment.

Services Offered

24-Hour Help Line

Our skilled advocates are available around the clock to respond to calls, offering information, resources, safety planning, and support. They support survivors by connecting them with advocacy services. For individuals who do not speak English, phone interpretation services are available to ensure clear communication and meaningful support.

Emergency Shelter

South Valley Sanctuary offers safe, confidential, short-term housing for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, accommodating up to 57 people, offering sleeping areas and essential amenities.

Our shelter is for individuals and families experiencing abuse who are at high risk of danger from their abuser and who need to escape into a safe, confidential setting. The shelter offers trauma-informed, comprehensive advocacy and support focused on safety planning, stable housing, and acquiring the necessary resources so that individuals and families can live free of domestic violence. Our advocates, case managers, and clinical team provide confidential, in-house support groups, life skills education, and services that help survivors and their families identify needs, develop plans, and access essential resources.

Community Advocacy

Community advocates are dedicated to assisting you with safety planning, connecting you to community resources, and offering ongoing support. Their services include guidance on mental health referrals, help with job searches, and addressing other individual needs. These resources are available to all survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault. Legal advocates offer valuable information and support for navigating criminal and civil legal matters. While they are not lawyers and cannot provide courtroom representation, they can guide you through legal processes such as obtaining protection orders, handling divorce proceedings, and creating parenting plans.

Additionally, they can connect you with free legal clinics or refer you to low-cost or pro bono attorneys for further assistance.

Community Support Groups

Our Hope and Healing is a processing group type of therapy designed to provide participants with a safe and structured environment to explore their thoughts, emotions, and interpersonal dynamics. Every Monday, virtually from 5:30-7 pm.
