From Classrooms to New Beginnings: The Ongoing Life Cycle of Technology

At South Valley Services, we know every resource can be a steppingstone for clients to realize their strength, courage, and resilience. We’re so grateful for the generous donation of 87 Chromebooks, which will now support survivors in our shelter and community.
These laptops, originally purchased for Majestic Elementary Arts Academy using taxpayer funding, served as valuable tools for students, enhancing their education and providing access to learning. Rather than letting these devices reach the end of their life cycle when they were no longer needed in the classroom, the school chose to donate to SVS, continuing their impact.
By donating these Chromebooks, Majestic Elementary Arts Academy has extended the impact of taxpayer dollars far beyond the classroom. Instead of being retired, these devices will continue to serve the community, helping survivors at SVS with job searches, continuing education (such as completing a GED), and accessing essential resources. Children in our programs can also use them for online schooling and homework, ensuring they don’t fall behind academically during transition. This donation not only benefits survivors but also maximizes the value of public investment, demonstrating how community collaboration can extend the reach of public resources.
Technology often follows a linear life cycle—purchased, used, and eventually discarded. But when schools and community members extend that life cycle, like Majestic Elementary Arts Academy and Tyler Woolstenhulme, who facilitated this donation, they create an ongoing ripple effect of opportunity. Instead of an endpoint, this donation marks a new beginning for survivors striving toward a brighter future.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Tyler Woolstenhulme and Majestic Elementary Arts Academy for their generosity and for recognizing that the value of a resource doesn’t end when its original purpose is fulfilled. Because of this donation, survivors now have the tools they need to rebuild, learn, and thrive.
If you’d like to join in creating new opportunities for survivors, consider donating cell phones no longer needed, phone cards, gently used tablets, or funds to South Valley Services. Together, we can ensure that support and hope continue beyond their first life cycle.
