Create a Lasting Impact Through Planned Giving

Planned giving offers a meaningful way to support SVS and ensure survivors of domestic violence continue to have access to safety, advocacy, and healing—today and in the future.

By including SVS in your estate plans or making a gift of appreciated assets, you can align your values with long-term community impact while potentially realizing tax advantages.

Planned gifts of all sizes help sustain our mission across Salt Lake, Tooele and Carbon Counties.

Gifts of Stock & Securities

Donating appreciated stock is one of the most effective ways to support SVS.

Benefits of donating stock may include:

  • Avoiding capital gains tax on appreciated securities
  • Receiving a charitable income tax deduction
  • Maximizing the impact of your gift

SVS accepts gifts of publicly traded securities, transferred electronically through your brokerage firm using a DTC (Depository Trust Company) transfer.

To ensure your gift is properly received and acknowledged, we ask donors to notify us when initiating a stock transfer.

In accordance with IRS regulations and our Gift Acceptance Policy, SVS does not assign a monetary value to non-cash contributions. Donors are encouraged to consult their tax advisor when determining the tax implications of their gift.

Gifts Through Your Will or Trust

Including SVS in your will or trust is a meaningful way to create a lasting legacy of safety and support for individuals and families impacted by domestic violence.

A bequest allows you to make a future gift while maintaining full control of your assets during your lifetime.

You may choose to:

  • Leave a specific dollar amount
  • Leave a percentage of your estate
  • Make a residual gift after other obligations are met

Sample Bequest Language (for reference only):

“I give and bequeath to South Valley Sanctuary Inc., a Utah nonprofit corporation, Tax ID 87-0543219, the sum of $____ (or ____% of my estate) to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

We recommend consulting your attorney or estate planning professional when preparing or updating your documents.

Beneficiary Designations

You can support SVS by naming us as a beneficiary of certain accounts, including:

  • Retirement accounts (IRA, 401(k), 403(b))
  • Life insurance policies
  • Bank or brokerage accounts

These gifts often pass directly to the organization and may provide tax advantages depending on your individual circumstances.

Gifts of Appreciated or Non-Cash Assets

In addition to publicly traded securities, some donors explore other ways to make a planned or non-cash gift.

Acceptance of non-cash gifts—including closely held securities, real estate, charitable trusts, or other complex assets—is subject to review and approval in accordance with SVS’ Gift Acceptance Policy. Certain gifts may require Board review and consultation with legal or financial advisors to ensure alignment with our mission and long-term sustainability.

If you are considering a non-cash or complex gift, we encourage you to contact us before initiating a transfer.

Use of Planned Gifts

Unless otherwise restricted and formally accepted, planned gifts to SVS are used to support long-term mission sustainability and may be allocated to the General Operating Fund, an endowment, or other Board-designated purposes in accordance with organizational policy.
