Residential Intake Advocate - Full Time (Salt Lake County Site)

PAY: Starting $19 - $20/hour (differentials available for language/weekend hours)

SCHEDULE: Flexibility in shifts worked is required as Shelter Services operate 24 hours/day, 365 days/yr Participation in on-call rotation is required. 

GENERAL PURPOSE

This Residential Intake Advocate position supports the residential intakes and resident support for the South Valley Services Shelter program, to ensure safe refuge for victims of domestic/sexual violence. The Residential Intake Advocate is a member of the leadership team, who works closely with the Shelter Manager, responsible for quality client care and guidance. This position also participates in the shelter on-call rotation to provide after-hours support and guidance for Resident Advocates, ensuring Shelter and Hotline services are trauma-informed and all practices are in line with a survivor empowerment model.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the 24-hour help line; provide crisis advocacy, safety planning support, and referrals and information to help callers with guidance and resources; and document all activities in electronic database.
  • Ensure an introductory intake meeting with new residents is held within 48 hours of a resident entering shelter and meet with each adult resident (and coordinate with the CLC Manager for child intakes within 48 working hours); coordinate access to other SVS services (case management, counseling, children’s services); and provide regular follow-up with each client to encourage and support goal progress, provide monthly progress review meetings, help prepare residents for transition/exits, and provide appropriate referrals and information.
  • Provide general advocacy, active listening, and support residential living needs for all Shelter residents including help answering questions and providing supplies.
  • Compile resident files completely and accurately, enter client data and demographics for all new residents, and complete client files upon exit.
  • Assist the Shelter Manager with weekly Residential Community Meetings to review house guidelines, shelter concerns, collective residents' issues, and provide shelter activities  
  • Participate in after-hours on-call responsibilities and be available to staff for assistance in handling problem situations.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of all client information.
  • Assist advocates when needed with cleaning resident bedrooms and bathrooms upon exit and perform tasks necessary to maintain all areas free from health/safety/fire hazards. (Basic cleaning tasks include but are not limited to: sweeping, mopping, dusting, changing and washing linens, and sanitizing bathrooms.)
  • Perform CPR and administer First Aid as needed

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents and staff.
  • Complete miscellaneous duties to comply with sanitation, safety, health, and licensing regulations.
  • Maintain processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, organization, and professionalism of paperwork and documentation.  
  • Attend and participate in staff development training as provided. Attending appropriate training to enhance and/or maintain skills.  
  • Promote high ethical and professional standards in all relationships and activities.   

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Education or Experience in a domestic violence shelter and/or victim service preferred.
  • Ability to be a leader and employ effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing in English.
  • Computer skills, knowledge of community resources, and good crisis intervention/de-escalation skills.
  • Pass and maintain a cleared Direct Access Clearance System background check.
  • Obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of hire and recertify every two years.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault laws, U-Visa process and other immigration matters, Protective Orders and Stalking Injunctions
  • Experience with providing on-call support
  • Completion of 40 Hour Core Advocacy Training (or will complete within first six months of employment)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
