South Valley Services (SVS) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide options to anyone who has experienced domestic violence. We provide counseling, case management, prevention, and shelter to help individuals and families build lives free from violence. Our programs aim to empower individuals to recognize their self-worth and develop the necessary skills to reach their full potential. SVS believes advocacy, prevention, and safety are the primary tools in eliminating domestic violence. To achieve this goal, SVS groups these three strategies into the following service areas:

  • The Sanctuary provides shelter for women, men, and children seeking a safe place away from domestic violence
  • Community Resource Centers (CRCs) provide case management and supportive services from community-based locations to make accessing services more attainable
  • Prevention and Education informs and educates the public regarding domestic violence and how to recognize, respond, and refer individuals who need services

Reporting to the Development Director, the Donations and Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for the donations and volunteer management at South Valley Sanctuary, the shelter for women, men, and children, ensuring basic needs items are available for those sheltered and that volunteers are being recruited and supervised at South Valley Sanctuary.


Full Time Hourly (Non-exempt, 40 hours per week)


  • A minimum of one year of volunteer coordinator experience
  • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with various populations and cultures.
  • Ability to stand for eight hours.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Must have reliable personal transportation as well as a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.


Demonstrated leadership skills and experience, preferably at South Valley Sanctuary.

Minimum Associates Degree in Human Services Field or equivalent work experience.


$17 to $20 per hour; depending on experience

Reporting Relationships:

The Donations and Volunteer Coordinator ensures all basic needs required by residents in the shelter and the agency at large are available.  The Donations and Volunteer Coordinator supervises the maintenance and operation of the building which involves maintaining and creating excellent working relationships with vendors and contractors.

Specific Duties:


  • Responds to and initiate emails and phone calls to the community at large to recruit volunteers.
  • Recruits and coordinates volunteers for special projects such as haircuts, yoga classes, dog therapy, read with a cop, etc. 
  • Responds to and initiates emails and phone calls to the community at large to gather donations and volunteers to complete projects in shelter facility. 
  • Works interdepartmentally to meet organizational needs; includes coordinating volunteer help and donations for projects per department needs, dependent on Development Director approval.
  • Organizes ongoing volunteer opportunities, such as donation sorting and inventory, food pickup and drop offs, volunteer committee service, writing thank you letters and cards, etc.
  • Ensures completion of volunteer project and, where relevant, volunteer facility repairs.


  • Coordinates that the donations at Farmers Insurance are brought from the shed, all items are inspected to make sure everything is in outstanding condition and are stored in the appropriate areas.
  • Responsible for maintaining both sheds organized and clean and all storage areas in coordination with Shelter Director.
  • Sorts, stocks, organizes, and distributes donations to appropriate storage or distribution areas as per shelter donation procedures.
  • Sorts and places excess donations to the MS Foundation outside of shelter facility.
  • Assumes responsibility for meeting the needs of shelter residents by communicating with the Shelter Director the needs of the shelter as stock items change.
  • Provides needed items to clients when requested and arranges for unusual requests to be met through donations or advocacy.
  • Maintains, organizes and staff the residents’ boutique at arranged times.
  • Responsible for the weekly pick up of milk and juice and grocery shopping at the Bishops Storehouse and Utah Food Bank.


  • Responsible to maintain a well-rounded budget from Bishops Store House to ensure food is kept in shelter throughout the year and to alert Grants Administrator to renew the grant when funding is close to being depleted.
  • Works in conjunction with Development Director and Development Assistant to create social media posts and other media communications (newspaper, magazines, radio) to reach out to community members to donate basic needs items or, when approved by the Development Director, special needs items.
  • Responsible to maintain an updated list of vendors and contact information.
  • Ensures that all in-kind donors are sent a thank you letter and an email invitation to register to receive our newsletter.
  • Maintains a database with all available information of in-kind donors and ensures donation forms are available at the Farmers Insurance drop off location.
  • Enters information into Apricot database regarding volunteer hours and all volunteers’ basic information.
  • Maintains and ensures all paperwork for volunteers is completed including application packet and background check.
  • Ensures all background checks for volunteers are mailed and placed in the volunteer application once cleared. 
  • Meets weekly with Development Director.
  • Attends all monthly staff meetings, training, and other mandatory meetings.
  • Assists with special projects and events.
